Best Free Website Builders (2026)
.mdUpdated
The services that will publish a working website at no cost, and what each of them holds back.
A free website is rarely free of everything: what is not paid in money is usually paid in an address someone else owns, in advertising nobody chose, or in doing the building yourself. The services below all publish a working site at no cost, and they differ in what they keep for the paid tier, in how much design they hand over, and in who they were built for, from a one-page profile to the site of a registered nonprofit.
Any service that publishes a working site at no cost and offers it in English belongs here, wherever it is based: the list is ranged by language, and a space appears in it as soon as it publishes its pages in that one. A service joins by asking, Markleex reads every request before accepting it, and the price is the same for everyone. The other names are the ones we found looking for the sector.
This list ranks them on facts Markleex can attest. The customers who confirm an entity count first, then every relationship other entities confirm, then how long the entity has held a verified website; where the facts are equal, the entity that has been on Markleex the longest comes first. Rank is earned, and it is the same for everyone.
The write-ups are ours. We read each site and describe what we found there, in one voice for every entry, so the list reads end to end.
Ranked by confirmed customers, then by all confirmed relationships, then by how long the entity has held a verified website, then by how long its space has been on Markleex, the oldest first. A relationship counts when the entity on the other side holds a verified website.

Simafri
@simafri · Confirmed relationships: 5 · www.simafri.com
Founded 2012 · Pricing Free for eligible nonprofits; Serenity by yearly subscription · Best for Registered nonprofits that want a site someone else looks after
According to their site, read on .
Simafri gives registered nonprofits their whole website for nothing: a responsive showcase site, hosting, an SSL certificate, mailboxes on the organisation's own domain, the content updates they ask for through the year, and the structured data that lets search engines and AI assistants read it. The site and the domain belong to the association, so it keeps both if it ever moves elsewhere. The offer is open to legally declared nonprofits working on inclusion, health, education, disability, social action, culture or the environment, and it asks for one contact person and a domain name of their own. Businesses and independent professionals have Serenity, a yearly subscription where the same team does the same work.

A free account publishes up to five live sites on a my.canva.site address; a custom domain and unlimited sites come with Canva Pro or Teams. Carrd
@carrd · Confirmed relationships: 0
Founded 2016 · Pricing Free for three sites; Pro from $9 a year · Best for One-page sites, profiles and launch pages
Carrd builds one-page sites, and its free tier is meant to be used rather than escaped. A free account publishes up to three sites, with every core building block, dozens of templates and a layout that adapts to any screen. What it holds back is the equipment around the page: no custom domain, no contact or signup forms, no third-party embeds, no analytics, and a small Made with Carrd line in the footer. That fits a personal page, a profile or a launch announcement, and stops short of a business site. The Pro tiers lift it, starting at nine dollars a year.

Framer
@framer · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in Amsterdam · Founded 2014 · Pricing Free on framer.app; Basic $10 a month · Best for Portfolios and startup sites that have to look designed
Framer publishes a designed site straight from its canvas, with a CMS, localization and built-in SEO. The free plan gives a framer.app domain, 1 GB of monthly bandwidth and ample room to build, and it keeps a Framer badge on the site. The Basic plan, at $10 a month, brings a custom domain and 50 GB of bandwidth. It fits a portfolio, a launch page or a startup site that has to look designed from the first screen.

GitHub Pages
@github-pages · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in San Francisco · Founded 2008 · Pricing Free · Best for Developers at ease with files and version control
GitHub Pages publishes a static site straight from a repository: push a change and it is live. It costs nothing, gives one site per account or organisation plus unlimited project sites, and accepts a custom domain without asking for a plan. Jekyll is built in, so a blog can be written in Markdown, and a site's default address is username.github.io. There is no editor and no dashboard, so what visitors get is the HTML that was written or generated. It suits someone at ease with files and version control, and it asks more of everyone else than the builders around it.

Google Sites
@google-sites · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in Mountain View, California · Founded 2008 · Pricing Free with a Google account · Best for Teams, projects and events
Google Sites is the site builder that comes with a Google account, and anyone who has one can publish with it. Pages are assembled by dragging blocks, the layout adapts to phones on its own, and anything already living in Docs, Sheets, Slides or Calendar can be embedded and stays in step with the original. Several people edit the same site at once, with version history and permissions, and a finished site goes either to the open web or to named viewers only. It was built for a team, a project or an event rather than for a shopfront, and it offers deliberately few design choices.

Strikingly
@strikingly · Confirmed relationships: 0
Founded 2012 · Pricing Free; Limited $8 a month billed yearly · Best for Single-page personal sites and launches
Strikingly builds mobile-first, mostly single-page sites, and its free plan publishes as many of them as you like, each with up to five pages, 1 GB of storage and 50 GB of bandwidth, plus a simple store for one product. A custom domain starts with the Limited plan at $8 a month billed yearly, and the Pro plan at $16 a month lifts most limits. Born in Y Combinator in 2012, it suits a personal site, a portfolio or a small launch page.

Webflow
@webflow · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in San Francisco · Founded 2013 · Pricing Free Starter on webflow.io; custom domain with a site plan · Best for Designers who want control of layout and code
Webflow is a visual builder that produces production-grade HTML and CSS, with a CMS and hosting underneath. The free Starter plan publishes a site of up to two pages on a webflow.io address, with a small CMS and a handful of form submissions, which is enough to design and test a whole site. A custom domain, more pages and custom code come with a paid site plan. It suits designers and teams who want control over layout and code without writing it by hand.

Wix
@wix · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in Tel Aviv · Founded 2006 · Pricing Free plan with ads; Light from $17 a month · Best for A full site without touching code
Wix lets anyone build and publish a site at no cost, hosted on its own infrastructure with SSL, DDoS protection and monitoring included. The free plan covers the drag-and-drop editor, the template library and the AI tools, and the site lives at a wixsite.com address. Two things wait behind the paywall: a custom domain, offered free for a year with an annual Premium plan, and the removal of the ads Wix shows on free sites. Selling online needs a plan as well. For someone who wants a full site without touching code, it asks the least.

WordPress.com
@wordpress-com · Confirmed relationships: 0
Based in San Francisco · Founded 2005 · Pricing Free plan with ads; Personal from $4 a month billed yearly · Best for Writing and publishing
WordPress.com runs managed WordPress hosting, and its free plan has no expiry date. It gives a wordpress.com subdomain, one gigabyte of storage, unlimited pages and posts, and the last seven days of basic statistics. Three things are held back: a custom domain, the ability to install plugins, which starts at the Personal plan, and freedom from the ads WordPress.com shows to visitors of free sites. Paid plans open a few dollars a month and include a domain for the first year. It leans towards writing and publishing rather than towards a shopfront.
Anyone can hold a Markleex Name, publish their pages and have their relationships confirmed. Start here. If you already hold one, ask to appear in this list.
